Beyond organizing premier athletic competitions, the ASF Foundation serves as a statewide mentor organization dedicated to shaping the leaders of tomorrow through holistic youth development. We actively instill the foundational values of academic excellence, healthy lifestyles, and good citizenship in young people across Alabama. Our targeted student ambassador initiatives and substantial post-secondary scholarship programs invest directly in the future success of deserving students pursuing higher education and technical training. By uniting sportsmanship with mentorship and educational support, we empower every generation to achieve their potential both on and off the field.
About ASF Foundation and the Alabama State Games
Founded in 1982 at the request of the United States Olympic Committee, the ASF Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering Alabama’s youth. By using sports as a catalyst, we mentor young people on the importance of academics, healthy lifestyles, and good citizenship while emphasizing strong community and family values.
Our community impact is driven by three core initiatives:
The Alabama State Games: As the state's largest annual amateur multi-sport event, this Olympic-style competition has grown tremendously. What began in 1983 at Auburn University with just 600 athletes now hosts over 5,000 participants competing across 25 different sports.
Health and Wellness: To combat childhood obesity, we launched the "Wee Can Fight Obesity" program in 2010. This engaging, animated exercise curriculum is currently used by over 160 schools to help physical education teachers instill lifelong healthy habits in their students.
Student Leadership: Since 2001, our Student Ambassador Program has empowered hundreds of high school and college students. Ambassadors build valuable career skills by leading community safety campaigns—such as our #URKEYS2DRV teen driver safety summits in partnership with State Farm.
Through these programs and our ongoing commitment to education, the ASF Foundation has awarded over $295,000 in academic scholarships since 1993. We also proudly support community safety by sponsoring a statewide anti-drug hotline (1-800-392-8011).
